World Teachers Day marks the anniversary of the adoption of the 1966 UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers. It sets standards regarding the rights and responsibilities of teachers for their initial preparation, further education, recruitment, employment, and learning conditions.
The observance celebrates the work of dedicated teachers around the world who continue to strive every day to ensure that ‘inclusive and equitable quality education’ and the promotion of ‘lifelong learning opportunities for all’ become a reality in every corner of the globe.
“In the midst of a national teacher shortage, we more than understand the value of a teacher here in DeSoto ISD,” said DeSoto ISD Superintendent of Schools Dr. Usamah Rodgers. “As I visit our campuses, I see their commitment, passion and dedication to ensuring students have high-quality and innovative learning experiences that will serve as the foundation on which students will have the opportunity to pursue their dreams.”
“As a little girl, I dreamed of becoming a teacher,” said Rodgers. “There is no greater calling and gift than that of an educator.”
World Teachers’ Day is held annually on October 5. That has been the case since the first observation way back in 1994.
The district invites its school community to join its celebration of teachers on World Teachers Day and every day.
