In order to reduce any potential distractions and concerns and to facilitate a smooth remainder of the school year, no backpacks will be allowed for scholars in grades 6-12 starting Monday, April 24, 2023, through the last day of school.

This measure is being taken out of an abundance of caution and to reduce safety concerns. Please note, a small clutch the size of a sandwich ziploc or a pencil bag will be permissible for sanitary care and/or personal hygiene items.

In order to support a smooth transition to the end of the current academic year:

  • The DeSoto ISD security staff will be in place and visible throughout the day and will make regular rotations in and around campuses and their exteriors.

  •  District-level staff members trained in safety and security will be assisting campuses with monitoring high-traffic and common areas in real-time through our video surveillance systems.

  •  Central and support staff will be deployed to district campuses to offer additional support and supervision of students when needed.

DeSoto ISD is committed to maintaining a learning environment that is safe and productive and that supports the criminal prosecution of any individual who threatens harm to our students, staff, and campuses.

In addition to the measures mentioned above, campuses will limit traffic in hallways during the school day and parents are asked to pick up students as immediately as possible at the close of the school day.

Please contact your child's campus directly if you have any questions regarding these changes.

Thank you for your cooperation and support as we continue to work together to keep our students and staff safe.
