The DeSoto Independent School District Calendar Committee developed three calendar options for consideration for the 2024-2025 academic school year for community review and feedback.
All three calendar options:
- Start the first day of instruction on August 12, 2024;
- Close the last day of instruction on May 23, 2025;
- Note closures for November 5, 2024, Election Day--a school safety measure
- Exceed the state-required 75,600 minutes of instruction
- Provide teachers with 187 workdays, as required by the state.
Major holiday breaks on the calendar are noted as follows:
- Thanksgiving Break: November 25-29, 2024
- Winter Break: December 23, 2024, through January 3, 2025
- Spring Break: March 10-14, 2025
Highlighted differences among the three options are noted below:
Calendar option A is a traditional approach to the academic school year.
- 79, 430 Instructional Minutes (3,830 more minutes than required by the state)
- 171 Instructional Days
Calendar Option B is a more innovative approach to the academic school year inclusive of a Fall Break and Good Friday.
- 77, 550 Instructional Minutes (1, 950 more minutes than required by the state)
- 167 Instructional Days
Calendar Option C is also an innovative approach to the academic school year with the option of a Fall Break.

DeSoto ISD understands the importance of making informed decisions and has created a survey that explains the new calendar concept and offers additional information parents and families may find useful in deciding how DeSoto ISD will structure its time during the upcoming academic year.
The survey opened on Monday, Dec. 18, 2023, following a presentation of the calendar options to the district’s Board of Trustees and will close in a couple of weeks.
Those interested in completing the survey are asked to review the survey’s contents and all three calendar options, before completing the survey.
