The DeSoto Independent School District Fine Arts program students continue to soar with a number of awards and recognitions accumulated throughout the fall semester.
These students receive direct instruction from industry-experienced and award-winning educators, who connect students with real-world learning opportunities.
The mission of DeSoto ISD is to ensure that all students learn and grow at their highest potential and the consistent success of the students in the Fine Arts programs are a testament to the support in place to help students excel.

BAND

Twenty-four DeSoto ISD Middle School students from Curtistene McCowan Middle Schools and West Middle School campuses earned placements in the All-District Middle School Honor Band on October 23, 2021. Students were selected by audition and earned the opportunity to work under the direction of a renowned clinician, Mr. Peter Ware, prior to participating in their first concert of the year under his direction.
CHOIR

The DeSoto High School Acapella Choir has been invited to perform at the WorldStrides Choral Festival in Honolulu, Hawaii in spring 2022. The choir was selected from among hundreds of choirs who submitted recordings across the United States. This once-in-a-lifetime opportunity will allow the choir students to perform among some of the country's best choirs, as well as experience the traditions of the Hawaii culture.

The DeSoto High School Choir has earned two incredible honors at the Southwest American Choir Directors Association Conference, which will be held in Little Rock, Arkansas on February 28-March 3, 2022.

Six DHS choir students have auditioned and earned placement in the SWACDA Honor Choir: Gabrielle Crittendon, Lailah El'Amin, Alexandria Ellison, Jayden Smith, Samoria Wilson, and Isaiah Zeno-Porter.

In addition, the DHS Varsity Ladies Choir, under the direction of Pamela Dawson, made history by being chosen to perform at the SWACDA. This choir is the first ladies' demonstration honor choir ever selected for the event.
DANCE

Two DHS Eaglettes, Captain Keairra Graves and Senior Lieutenant Madyson Pendleton have been selected to the HTE Dance Academy National Dance Team and will perform in Honolulu, Hawaii spring 2022, mingle with top college recruiters and learn about the history and culture of the island. These students earned this placement based on a rigorous audition process that included 1500 candidates.
As the fall semester nears completion, the DeSoto ISD Fine Arts Department will have several local performances for parents and the school community.

Dec 7: DHS Acapella Choir performance at the City of DeSoto Tree Lighting at City Hall at 6:30 p.m.

Dec 10: DHS and McCowan MS Christmas Choir Concert in DHS Auditorium at 7 p.m.

Dec 14: DHS Musical Theatre’s “Once on an Island” at the DHS Black Box theatre at 7 p.m.

Dec 16: DHS Acapella Choir Performance at North Park Mall from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Dec 18: DHS Choir Performance at the City of DeSoto Christmas at City Hall and the DeSoto Hometown Holiday Parade
