DeSoto ISD to Host Info Session on Grade 3-8 Hybrid School

Hybrid Learning Model Web Story

A year ago, schools across the world scrambled to respond to how they would educate students amid a global health pandemic. In that time, schools developed virtual educational frameworks, systems for social-emotional learning and other means to address gaps for students as a result of schools’ closures.

As families also adjusted, many found solace and comfort in their ability to work from home and educate their students at home.

In a recent survey of DeSoto ISD families, the District found that parents desired a continuation of virtual learning and, in response, developed the hybrid learning model at Ruby Young for third through eighth grade scholars for the upcoming 2021-2022 school year.

DeSoto ISD’s Ruby Young Hybrid School does not mirror previous virtual learning models in which teachers are simultaneously teaching both in-person and virtual learners. Instead, students will learn away from school two days per week and at school three days per week.

This design promotes a commitment to lifelong learning, provides students with customized opportunities and helps students become well-rounded learners and sets the stage for competency-based education that is responsive to the whole child.

While application to the hybrid school is open to all students, the ideal student profile includes the following for prospective third through eighth grade scholars:

Goal oriented
Open and active communicator
Self-advocate
Proactive
Strong time-management skills
Growth mindset
Currently successfully navigating remote learning
Actively engaged in their learning (attendance rate 80-90% or higher)
Household equipped to support remote learning two days/week

Families interested in completing an application for consideration of acceptance to the hybrid campus may express interest via the Hybrid Interest Survey.

Enrollment for the hybrid campus will be available starting May 28 through July 31.

For interested families who want to learn more about the DeSoto ISD hybrid learning opportunity, the District will host a virtual meeting led by the campus’ administrative team at 6:30 pm on Wednesday, May 19, 2021 via Zoom. Access the meeting via the information below:
