Dear DeSoto ISD Families and School Community, as we are learning more details about the tragic shooting in a Uvalde, Texas school, DeSoto ISD would like to express the district’s heartfelt condolences to the families and staff in Uvalde who are devastated by this vile and unexpected act of violence.

As an educator, parent and human being, it is unthinkable to lose members of a school family, even more difficult to fathom as a result of this senseless and disheartening act.

Parents and guardians entrust schools daily with their children and consider school to be one of the safest environments for children second only to their homes.

Please know that every day,

DeSoto ISD staff work diligently and proactively to protect and secure district campuses and buildings ensuring students have a safe learning environment and educators have a safe working environment.

Please know that DeSoto ISD will continue enforcing its comprehensive security measures through these final days of the school year to safeguard our Eagle staff and scholars.

Safety and security is also a community effort, so please remember that if you see any suspicious activity or want to report someone who may be in danger of harming others or themselves, you can report it anonymously to an administrator as immediately as possible or submit the information anonymously via email at [email protected] or call or text +1.206.406.6485.

We are committed to ensuring the safety of our students and staff members. Thank you for entrusting us with your child. Please contact campus administrators should you have additional information, questions or concerns.

The Uvalde community will remain in our thoughts and prayers, and we send our deepest condolences for the lives affected.

Sincerely,

Dr. Larry Lewis

Interim Superintendent of Schools
