As mandated by the Texas Education Agency in the fall of 2020, the DeSoto ISD School Board and the District Administration are responsible for the development of Corrective Action Plans (CAP). The plans provide insight into the actions and constraints and outline the future actions of both the Board and the Administration in relation to the work of the district’s improvement. Each month, these bodies present a progress report to the community.
For March 2021, both the DeSoto ISD Trustees and District Administration shared a glimpse of the next series of Corrective Action Plans which will become active next month in addition to their monthly update.
The first series of the six-month plans, which will soon expire, focused on progress measures that lent to the stabilization of the organization. Specifically, the Board set, communicated, and began implementing the vision for the district and the Administration organized, aligned, and audited its operating systems and academic offerings to improve student outcomes.
Both the Board and the District Administration plans showed the completion of most of the progress measures with a few that were on track to be completed by the April 1, 2021 deadline. Additionally, the Administration’s plan showed one progress measure in the Human Resources’ objective that was noted as being off track.
The next series of CAP plans previewed by the Administration builds upon the foundation of those initial plans but maintains a deeper focus on the development of an effective curriculum management system with progress measures to further improve student outcomes along with the improvement of the district’s financial ratings and other operational focuses.
The Board’s new CAP plan preview extends its focus on furthering the development, communication, and implementation of the district’s vision. It also maintains a strong focus on student outcomes and increased community engagement.
These focuses are in alignment with the district’s newly unveiled “Be the Future” strategic plan and the North Star community-focused plan.
The new CAP plans presented will be more fully finalized and discussed during the next regular Board meeting scheduled to take place on April 26, 2021.
