DeSoto Independent School District is pleased to announce Julius Hemphill II as the 2021 District Spelling Bee champion.
Hemphill, a sixth-grade student at Katherine Johnson Technology Magnet Academy, competed against ten spellers during the online event, taking place Jan. 19 – 21.
The Scripps National Spelling Bee created an online platform for local competitions so students would be able to participate at home or at school in a virtual environment. Hemphill advanced to the county competition, where he will compete against spellers from surrounding districts.
Tavaren Robinson, a student at West Middle School, was the runner-up of the district competition.
Congratulations to all of our spellers who competed this school year!
