DeSoto ISD to host Student-Focused Job Fair

DeSoto Independent School District continues to provide real-world, career-relevant experiences for scholars which is why the district has designed and will host a student-focused job fair specifically for DeSoto High School students.

The event is scheduled to take place from 6:30 pm to 8 pm on Tuesday, April 18,  at the DeSoto High School Academy Cafeteria located at 600 Eagle Drive in DeSoto.

Students are asked to arrive roughly 15 minutes prior to the start of the event in professional dress with printed resumes in a folder.

At the event, students will have the opportunity to interact with hiring managers who could potentially hire scholars on the spot.

Registration for the event is encouraged but not required. Those interested in registering may do so via the following link: https://forms.gle/CxmLiP2xkzcVaAJn9.

“This event is being held to provide work-based learning experiences for our students through summer jobs and internships, job shadowing, and possible year-round employment,” said DeSoto ISD Director of Career and Technical Education Director Melinda Pugh. “ Leading up to the event, students will be refining their resumes, discussing professional dress standards and expectations, and participating in mock interviews.”

The opportunity to connect students with work-based learning experiences aligns with the district’s Board goals--one of which focused on students’ future readiness, specifically college, career, and military readiness.

“Foundations in literacy and math and future readiness are the cornerstones of our work in education,” said DeSoto ISD Superintendent of Schools Dr. Usamah Rodgers. “We want to ensure students have a strong foundation of learning in reading and math and we want to ensure students have a clear path forward after graduation which means providing them access and opportunities for career exploration and exposure which was the intent with which this concept was developed.”

Job providers, students, parents, or guardians who may have questions related to the April 18 student job fair may direct questions to DeSoto ISD Director of Career and Technical Education Melinda Pugh via email at [email protected]
