DeSoto High School Choral Department brought “LOVE” to the stage during their Spring concert “A Night of Love.” The audience was treated to beautiful music from multiple choirs, as well as ensemble and solo performances. Beginning with a processional from the Acapella Choir dressed in white, entering from the back of the auditorium stopping periodically to pass out several long stem white roses to audience members, the variety of music and melodies ensured there was something for everyone to enjoy!
Audience members sang along or nodded their heads or clapped their hands throughout the evening's performances.
Presentations and surprise announcements completed the evening. Pastor Curt Krohn, president of Concerned DeSoto Citizens(CDC), presented a $1,000 donation to the choir and many encouraging remarks to assist in the choral program. The choirs have historically performed for CDC events, and CDC frequently includes the choir on their fundraising distribution.
Following a beautiful rendition of “Anyone Who Had a Heart” by senior Lailah El’Amin, her escort for the stage steps re-appeared with a large sign. Senior Kevin Dotson, who had performed in a trio earlier, had written a promposal to her for this year’s dance! She cried her ‘yes’ as the audience cheered.
And of course, the always emotional ‘passing of the microphone’ as seniors passed their mic to underclassmen, encouraging them to take up the mantle and keep the program in award-winning shape!
The grand finale of seniors singing “End of the Road” brought tears, applause and a genuine appreciation for an evening of entertainment.
Congratulations Director Dawson and DHS choirs for another great year including standout performances at the National Music Festival in Honolulu, Hawaii and at the Southwest American Choral Directors Association Conference, Little Rock Arkansas.
