DeSoto Independent School District’s Katherine Johnson Technology Magnet Academy has been noted as ranked as one of the best schools in the state by a national news publication.
“This is a testament to the work taking place across DeSoto ISD,” said DeSoto ISD Superintendent of Schools Dr. Usamah Rodgers. “This is a reminder of what’s possible when we lean into supporting scholars and students and what we aspire to ensure takes place at every campus in DeSoto ISD.”
According to U.S. News, DeSoto ISD’s KJTMA is ranked in the top 40% percent of schools among Texas elementary schools.
“The educators and staff believe so deeply in our students,” said KJTMA Principal Dr. Michelle Neely. “We believe our students deserve an education that helps them ignite their own gifts and talents.”

U.S. News analyzed 103,099 Pre-K, elementary, and middle schools to rank the Best for 2024, and DeSoto ISD’s Katherine Johnson Technology Magnet Academy (KJTMA) placed among the top 40% of elementary and middle schools in the state of Texas.
This ranking makes KJTMA BOTH a U.S. News Best Elementary School and a Best Middle School. Of the 68,000 U.S. public elementary and middle schools that were evaluated by U.S. News, close to 1,100 earned both awards.
U.S. News rankings use the same methodology for all included grade levels.
For each state, schools were assessed on their shares of students who were proficient or above proficient in their mathematics and reading/language arts state assessments. Half the formula was the results themselves; the other half was the results in the context of socioeconomic demographics. In other words, the top-ranked schools are all high achieving and have succeeded at educating all their students.
