Student Dresscode

DeSoto ISD PK-12 Standards of Dress Guidelines

Student attire in the DeSoto Independent School District is meant to promote a positive, professional learning environment where the focus is on learning and not on clothing. In following the established guidelines, campus principals will have complete judgement on matters concerning interpretation of the dress guidelines. Students who persistently violate these guidelines will be held accountable following the DeSoto ISD Student Code of Conduct.

 

ALLOWED

NOT ALLOWED

TOPS/SHIRTS

All students (PK-12) can wear any color top/shirt; OR a college, military, or spirit shirt. Shirt must fit the individual properly. Shirts can be long or short sleeved. Shirts are not limited to solid colors.

  • Sleeveless, tanks/camis, tube or halter tops
  • Crop tops or low-cut shirts
  • Lewd or inappropriate text/graphics

BOTTOMS

All students (PK-12) can wear bottoms that fit the individual properly. Material and colors do not matter however clothing cannot be too big or too tight. Shirts must be no shorter than five (5) inches from the knee.

  • Leggings
  • Pajama pants
  • Tights (under a skirt only)
  • Sagging: pants that are unnaturally fitting at the waist and crotch area
  • Pants with excessive or large holes

SKIRTS/DRESSES

Dresses must have sleeves. Dresses (and skirts) must fit appropriately and must not be too tight or no shorter than (5) inches from the knee.

  • Mini dresses/skirts
  • Halter dresses or spaghetti straps

 

SHOES

Shoes must be worn at all times.

  • House shoes
  • Stiletto heels
  • Flip-Flops
  • Athletic slides
  • Open-toe/Open-heel
  • Shoes with wheels

OUTERWEAR: SWEATERS, SWEATSHIRTS, JACKETS, COATS, HOODIES

All students (PK-12) can wear any color outerwear. Outerwear must be appropriately sized.

Masks

Masks are not mandatory but are encouraged.

**Students are not allowed to wear to school: Pajamas, leggings or tights as outerwear (unless under a skirt), hats or caps (unless for religious or medical reasons), extreme jewelry, visible body piercing except ears, or any item lewd/offensive in nature, gang-related or that contains excessive holes.

Backpacks: There is no stipulation/requirement regarding back pack color/material.
