In honor of National School Counselor Appreciation Week, DeSoto ISD celebrates its district counselors and appreciates their daily contribution to the school community. The theme for this week of celebration is “School Counselors: Standards-Based, Student-Focused,” and emphasizes the myriad ways counselors contribute to the betterment and success of students academically, socially and emotionally, and even by helping them prepare to embrace a successful future.
From in-class discussions and exercises, small group discussions, or even one-on-one conversations, school counselors aim to reach and connect children to their future. Specifically, DeSoto ISD school counselors help students learn coping skills and how to work well with peers, make informed decisions, and take responsibility for their actions. Counselors develop these skills to help them become good friends, family members, and employees.
When it comes to preparing for graduation and future success, school counselors are actively engaged in helping students examine their abilities, strengths, interests, and talents, working in partnership with parents as they encounter the challenges of raising children in today’s times. A school counselor focuses on positive ways to enhance students’ academic, career, and social/emotional development and works alongside teachers and other educators to provide an effective educational system where students can realize their potential and aspirations.
DeSoto ISD commends its school counselors for utilizing their certifications as educators and experienced master-level training to be an integral part of the district’s educational program.
The work done to ensure that all students achieve their highest levels is not unnoticed and for this DeSoto ISD publicly applauds the work of its counselors today and every day.
