Pre-K Enrollment Fair at Amber Terrace

Did you know early childhood learning has long-term and wide-ranging benefits for young scholars in creating a solid foundation for future success in the classroom and life?

The DeSoto Independent School District invites all parents of Pre-Kindergarten students to come to the Amber Terrace Early Childhood Discovery and Design Center Cafeteria located at 224 Amber Lane for its PreK3 and PreK-4 Enrollment Fair from July 31 - August 3 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

During this week-long affair, parents who have or have not enrolled their child for PreK 3 or PreK 4 for the 2023-24 school year will be able to:
- Start the enrollment process
- Complete the enrollment process
- Update and provide any outstanding documentation to campus leaders.

This August touchpoint will help campus staff, students, and parents connect and resolve any needs or information prior to the start of the school year.

Access to early childhood education supports healthy development in the early years of students' social, emotional, and intellectual development. It provides building blocks for educational achievement, economic productivity, responsible citizenship, lifelong health, strong communities, and successful parenting of the next generation.

Children who have access to early childhood education are less likely to repeat a grade level; are better academically prepared as they matriculate through school; are more likely to graduate from high school, go to college, and earn higher wages in their careers, meaning that they are better positioned to lead and advance as adults.

The research is clear and that’s why DeSoto ISD is working hard to ensure every child in the DeSoto and Glenn Heights communities has access to early childhood education in the district.

The commitment to ensuring that our young scholars have an immersive environment solely conducive to educating their early learners is strong in DeSoto ISD; therefore, the district is reopening its highly regarded pre-kindergarten campus this year.

Campus Features
From colorful, rich text walls, to activity stations complete with mini-libraries and buckets of manipulatives and lessons, DeSoto ISD early learners are engaged at every turn socially and academically while in the care of our highly qualified staff using the planned, purposeful play approach for its classes.

Montessori Classes
DeSoto ISD will continue its PreK-3 and PreK-4 Montessori classes offerings to offer students and parents a personalized student-led learning experience. Montessori classes unveil the power of learning through play in education. Learning through play is essential and can help young children be ready for school, encourage their imagination and help them with literacy and numeracy skills.

Motor Sensory Labs and Adaptive Learning Spaces
In addition to the traditional early childhood learning spaces, the Amber Terrace campus will also have motor sensory labs and adaptive learning spaces to help stimulate a child’s sensory systems, support students who need to develop learning readiness skills or gain mastery of the environment to enhance their ability to maneuver and function in their environment, leading them to better performances in tasks such as handwriting, sitting still, paying attention, speaking, and behavior. The campus will also have learning spaces for nesting and special education classes to help address the needs of all of its early childhood learners.
