During the Monday, March 27, 2023, meeting of the DeSoto ISD Board of Trustees, board members approved the reopening of Amber Terrace Discovery and Design Early Childhood Learning Center.

The campus located at 224 Amber Lane in DeSoto was temporarily closed in 2021 as a cost-saving measure. However, given the strong interest from the community regarding the preservation of the campus as an early childhood-specific campus, district administration proposed the campus’ reopening to the Board for the upcoming school year.

The plan included information regarding maintenance, repairs, and other make-ready notes to prepare the campus to receive students and staff as well as information regarding inventory, staffing, and other relevant information.

“We are excited to work together to make this happen for our school community,” said Board President Dr. DeAndrea Fleming. “Amber is such a special place and our families are always so excited about starting their scholar’s learning journey there, so this is truly a great moment and opportunity for the district to bring this program back.”

DeSoto ISD Superintendent of Schools Dr. Usamah Rodgers said, “ Reopening Amber is a great step for the children and families of DeSoto and Glenn Heights. When young scholars have a space especially designed and shaped for their learning needs, it is an intentional effort to ensure their future success. As a district, we are committed to making that happen from scholars’ very first school experiences which is why reopening Amber is such a positive moment for us.”

While all district Pre-K3 and Pre-K4 programs will return to Amber Terrace starting in the 2023-2024 academic year, Woodridge Elementary and Cockrell Hill Elementary will continue to serve scholars in kindergarten through second grade.
