Employee Retirement Spotlight: DeSoto ISD Human Resources Benefits Specialist Theresa Jackson Retires after 22 years of Service to the District
When the phone rings in the DeSoto ISD Human Resources Benefits department office this upcoming school year, the voice on the other end will be different. DeSoto ISD Leaves, Benefits & Substitute Specialist Theresa Jackson is retiring after 22 years of service.
Jackson came to the Human Resources team after working in the district’s Finance department for 19 years.
“After working for several years in finance, I wanted to try something different before retiring. I am glad I made the change,” Jackson said.
Since coming to the Human Resources department, she has been the primary contact for all benefit providers and staff-related support, processing staff leave, and absence reporting. She also served as the substitute liaison offering orientation sessions and support throughout the year.
From new hire benefits enrollment to employee separation or payment of death benefits after a life transition, Jackson has been tasked with ensuring the appropriate processes are completed and that the District stays in compliance with the relevant agencies, providers, and organizations as she served the staff and families during her tenure.
Jackson’s thoughts landed on work relationships as she consider the aspect of her job she will miss the most. “I will miss the many friends I made while here at DeSoto ISD,” Jackson said. “I really enjoyed putting names with faces and getting to know the district employees.”
She felt the timing was right for her retirement decision.
“I am getting older and am ready to travel and have a little fun before I get too old,” Jackson said.
Grateful for her experiences as one of the District’s prominent staff members, she will soon pass her roster of responsibilities to the next DeSoto ISD Benefits team member and put on her traveling shoes.
