OTHER RESOURCES:

Many parents may be wondering how to talk to children and teens about the tragic events of yesterday. Though these conversations are not easy, they are important. The National Association of School Psychologists recommends the following:

  • Talk to children and listen to their concerns and feelings
  • Reassure children they are safe and explain all the ways the adults in the family and community are working to keep them safe
  • Answer questions in an honest and age-appropriate manner
  • Limit the use of media exposure

You can also call the National Parent Helpline at 1-855-4A PARENT (1-855-427-2736) to get emotional support from a trained advocate. They are available Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

DeSoto ISD is committed to meeting the holistic needs of our students and families and being responsive to the needs of our school community.
