Dallas County recently announced that its health officials adjusted the county’s COVID-19 risk level to red indicating a high level of spread. The Dallas County Public Health and Education Committee recommends that schools emphasize virtual learning options when the county is at this level until the COVID-19 spread risk is lower.

Given this development, the DeSoto ISD Reconnect Safety Meter’s risk level has also moved to red as it is aligned with Dallas County’s monitoring assessment. As a result, families in DeSoto ISD who have opted into campus-supervised learning can update their student learning preference to home-supervised learning until the conclusion of the next six weeks learning cycle on November 20, 2020.

Please remember to assess your family’s risk and consider the questions below as you make a decision:

  • Is your child or another member of your household considered high risk?

  • Can your family adequately support your child via home-supervised learning?

We realize there are many complexities to whether home-supervised learning works for your family. If your child or family members are considered high risk, please consult with your health care provider about the risks and their recommendations for your family.

If your student will participate in campus-supervised learning, please revisit the campus safety measures. Remember that all students must wear a facial covering, maintain their distance from peers while on campus, and wash hands often. Additionally, DeSoto ISD requests that students who choose to participate in campus-supervised learning refrain from attending events outside of school where the same precautions may not be followed as social events pose a substantial risk to attendees.
