With the October 2017 announcement of DeSoto Independent School District’s $15M dollar Academies for Academic Enhancement and Excellence, or A2E2, United States Department of Education Grant, the district’s magnet programs were positioned to significantly better serve magnet students across DeSoto ISD’s K-12 magnet program offerings.

From Dec. 18, 2017 through Jan. 31, 2018, DeSoto ISD opened magnet program applications, giving current and prospective DeSoto ISD families and students the opportunity to apply for a seat in the district’s magnet programs.

Following the close of the application period, applicants will go through an automated lottery selection to be held Feb. 28. Families selected under the A2E2 lottery will receive notice of selection shortly thereafter by email.

The lottery will identify those students to be served by the A2E2 grant funding. Students not selected in the lottery will still be accepted to a DeSoto ISD magnet program. Those students accepted to a general DeSoto ISD magnet seat will be supported through general district funding.

Each student will receive the same high quality, innovative magnet educational experience. The only difference will be the funding source.

Following the lottery, students and families will be notified of their acceptance and placement to a DeSoto ISD magnet program by email and will receive information about next steps.

Due to the overwhelming interest expressed in the DeSoto ISD Magnet Program opportunities available to students and families in the Best Southwest, the district is pleased to announce a second application window set to run March 30 through April 30 of this year. The second application window will also place students in a DeSoto ISD magnet program for the 2018-2019 school year.

Starting March 30, 2018, families can apply for a DeSoto ISD magnet program at www.DeSotoISD.org/magnetapplication.

For those families interested in other opportunities in DeSoto ISD such as career and technical education, honors or advanced academics or general educational enrollment, the district now offers selective enrollment for K-12 grade students.
