DeSoto ISD Families are invited to join Advanced Academics this summer for the Summer Book Clubs. The recommended titles are listed below, but families are not limited to any grade band list of recommended reading.
Striving for cultural relevance in these summer reading selections means that some books may contain language and descriptions some may find offensive. We HIGHLY recommend that parents and legal guardians review the selections before providing novels to children and young adults.
Families are responsible for obtaining books for our book clubs. These books are available through bookstores and libraries; there are also audio versions available as well.
Featured titles include:
-
(Kindergarten): Fry Bread: A Native American Family Story by Kevin Noble Maillard (Illustrated by Juana Martinez-Neal)
-
(Grades 1 - 2): Jabari Jumps by Gaia Cornwall
-
(Grades 3 - 5): The Season of Styx Malone by Kekla Magoon
-
(Grades 6 - 8): Tristan Strong Punches a Hole in the Sky by Kwame Mbalia
-
(Grades 9 - 12): Stamped: Racism, Antiracism, and You by Jason Reynolds and Ibram X. Kendi
Any DeSoto ISD family can join the book clubs, so please join us in spreading a love of reading!!!
