West Middle School Male Leadership Academy Builds Brotherhood, Character, and Academic Success for Middle School Boys
DeSoto ISD’s West
Middle School Male Leadership Academy is now accepting applications for
rising 6th and 7th grade boys for the 2026–2027 school year, offering a
school-within-a-school model designed to cultivate leadership, resilience, and
academic achievement among adolescent male scholars.

(Grades 6–8)
Built on the values of pride, belonging, brotherhood, and
camaraderie, the program creates an environment where boys are empowered to
lead, excel, and develop the skills necessary for future academic and personal
success.
“Iron sharpens iron, and this academy is designed to
bring out the greatness in every young man,” said Principal Dr. Brittany
Strickland. “The Male Leadership Academy is the right fit for scholars who
need a space where their strengths are cultivated, their identity is honored,
and their leadership skills are nurtured.”

“This academy provides a pathway for students to grow
academically, socially, and emotionally,” said Director of Advanced
Academics Robin Johnson-Ford. “It’s a transformative environment for young
men.”
“Purposeful leadership programs like this shape young
scholars into confident decision-makers,” added Dr. Anita Perry,
Executive Director of CCMR and Counseling Services. “The Male Leadership
Academy prepares boys for success well beyond middle school.”

providing scholars with a unique, supportive environment where their talents
and leadership potential can soar.
