West Middle School Hosts “Saddle Up for Reading” Rodeo Night to Engage Families in Literacy

DeSoto Independent School District’s West Middle School
invites families to saddle up for an evening of reading, learning, and fun at
its upcoming Reading Rodeo Night on Tuesday, November 12, from 6–7 PM.
This interactive event is designed to strengthen literacy skills for scholars
while empowering families with strategies to support reading and writing at
home.
“Reading Rodeo Night is all about building bridges between
home and school,” said Dr. Brittany Strickland, Principal of West Middle
School. “We want families to leave with practical strategies they can use
to support their scholars’ literacy growth while enjoying a fun, interactive
evening together.”
Families can expect an evening packed with hands-on
learning stations, student challenges, parent workshops, and literacy-themed
games, all in a festive, rodeo-themed atmosphere. Dinner will be provided,
and participants will have the chance to win prizes that celebrate the joy of
reading.
Stephanie McCloud, DeSoto ISD Chief Academic Officer,
emphasized the district’s commitment to literacy: “By empowering families with
the tools to reinforce learning at home, we help scholars thrive academically
and personally. Events like Reading Rodeo Night strengthen the vital
partnership between school and home.”
West Middle School encourages all families to join the
celebration and experience a night where literacy comes to life.
Kendal Harden, DeSoto ISD Parent and Community Engagement
Specialist, added, “This is more than just a fun night—it’s an opportunity
to engage families in meaningful ways, inspire a love of reading, and equip
them to actively support student success.”
From interactive learning stations to student challenges and
family prizes, this event aims to make reading an exciting, shared adventure.
