Curtistene S. McCowan Fine Arts Magnet Academy is pleased to announce important information for students interested in participating in dance programs during the 2025–2026 school year. Both students interested in enrolling in dance as a class and those wishing to audition for the Performing Dance Company are required to complete a virtual summer dance assignment to ensure appropriate placement and observation. 

 

How to Participate: 
Students must complete the following steps: 

  • Access the Virtual Summer Dance Camp Video 
     

  • Visit this YouTube link to access the “2021 Summer Dance Camp” presented by the MMS Dance Department. 

  • Record Daily Practice Videos after rehearsing the choreography in each lesson provided in the online videos 

  • Students should follow along and record themselves completing the video exercises each day.  

  • Dancers must wear all-black dance attire and ensure a clean, clear background.  

  • Completed videos must be submitted in order (Monday through Friday) to [email protected]. Videos may be sent daily or combined in one email. 

 

Deadline:  

All videos must be submitted by Friday, July 11, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. 

 Include Required Information in Each Submission: 

 

  • Subject Line: 25-26 Dance Interest 

  • Student’s First and Last Name 

  • Grade Level for the 2025–2026 School Year 

  • Student ID Number 

  • Indicate interest: Dance Class or Dance Company (Note: Company is available for 7th and 8th graders; 6th graders are welcome to audition if seriously interested) 

  • Specify which day’s video is being submitted (e.g., Day 1, Day 2) 

  • Share prior dance experience, if any, including styles and names of instructors, choreographers, or dance companies (e.g., Ballet, Jazz, Mary Lois School of Dance, The Black Academy of Arts & Letters) 

  • Attach student’s physical, medical, or health information (e.g., asthma, injury history)
