The Katherine Johnson Technology Magnet Academy (KJTMA) Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) will host a Digital Safety and Online Trafficking Awareness Event on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. at KJTMA, located at 1200 Academy Way, DeSoto, TX. This family-focused event is designed to equip students and parents with the tools and knowledge to navigate the online world safely.

"At DeSoto ISD, keeping our students and families safe is a top priority. This event gives parents and guardians practical tools to protect their children online, while empowering kids to recognize risks and make smart choices in the digital world,” said Kendal Harden, DeSoto ISD Parent Engagement Specialist: “We’re excited to bring such an experienced expert, like FBI Special Agent Conor Wanderscheid, to guide our community in staying safe and informed."

The event will feature FBI Special Agent Conor Wanderscheid, a distinguished expert in child exploitation and human trafficking prevention. Agent Wanderscheid served six years in Minnesota state law enforcement, assigned to the Central Minnesota Human Trafficking Task Force. In 2022, he joined the FBI, where he currently serves on the Dallas Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force and as one of the only FBI agents in the nation to hold a position as a Department of Homeland Security Task Force Officer. He also works undercover online to identify and apprehend offenders seeking to exploit children and trafficking victims.

During the session, Agent Wanderscheid will share practical guidance on safe internet and app use, recognizing danger signs, and steps to take if children feel unsafe online. The event is geared toward children ages 5–13, as well as their parents and guardians.

“KJTMA is committed to ensuring our students and families have the knowledge and resources to thrive in both digital and real-world environments,” said KJTMA Principal Yolanda Hanspard. “This event provides a valuable opportunity to learn directly from a national expert about how to stay safe online.”
