Whether he is teaching verb conjugations, timing laps on the pool deck, or greeting students from behind the wheel of a school bus, Efrain Lozano shows up each day with determination and purpose.
“No matter where I am—in the classroom, on the pool deck, or driving a route—determination shapes how I show up each day,” he shared.
In the Classroom
As a Spanish teacher, Lozano reminds students that learning a language is about persistence, not perfection. He encourages them to speak, try, and grow—even when it feels uncomfortable—because he knows he is preparing them with skills that open doors to college, careers, and a broader world.
“I teach Spanish not just so students can pass a class, but so they can connect, travel, serve, and succeed in a diverse world.”
In the Pool
As the DHS Swim Coach, Lozano instills discipline, resilience, and mental toughness.
“Progress in the water doesn’t happen overnight. It takes early mornings, repeated drills, and pushing through barriers.”
One stroke at a time, he helps swimmers discover what’s possible when they stay committed.
Behind the Wheel
Lozano also values his essential role as a bus driver, ensuring students start and end each day safely and with care. He takes pride in being a calm, reliable presence.
“Students notice reliability, and I want to be someone they can depend on every single day.”
A Unified Mission
Across all his roles, Lozano models perseverance, consistency, and a growth mindset—qualities he hopes students will carry with them for life. At the core of his work is one constant: making a meaningful impact.
Together, his roles allow him to support the whole child—academically, physically, and emotionally.
Proudest Moments & Personal Motivation
Lozano is most proud of the confidence he helps students develop—whether it’s rolling their R’s, finishing a tough swim set, or stepping onto the bus with a smile.
“Seeing students believe in themselves—that’s the impact that means the most to me.”
He draws strength from the relationships he builds with students and from the example set by his parents, immigrants who taught him sacrifice, perseverance, and integrity. Their journey inspires him to serve with purpose and create opportunities for the next generation.
A Fun Fact
Lozano jokingly believes he could win “Most Dramatic Telenovela Actor” for his vocabulary lesson performances. His storytelling, humor, and expressive flair make Spanish class memorable.
“If we’re going to roll our R’s,” he laughs, “we might as well enjoy it.”
A Believer in DeSoto ISD
Above all, Lozano believes deeply in the district he proudly serves.
“DeSoto can be great—we already have the talent and the heart. When we stay united and hold ourselves accountable, there is no limit to what DeSoto ISD can become.”
