New Hire Orientation for Academic Leaders

DeSoto ISD held New Hire Orientation for its new 21-22 campus academic leaders on their first official day as DeSoto Eagles!

Tagged as The DeSoto ISD Difference-Makers, the new staff members were able to engage with district central office leaders, be greeted by the school board, and receive nuts-and-bolts presentations from DeSoto ISD Superintendent of Schools Dr. D’Andre Weaver, Chief of Staff Sonya Cole-Hamilton, chief of Human Resources Mia Stroy and tour the district.

. Weaver discussed district goals and the impact of their work on the district’s progress, the district’s emphasis on developing people, improving culture, and ensuring that all students can achieve at their highest levels.

“As you start your career with us, we hope that you see DeSoto ISD as a network of dedicated parents, hard-working and talented students, and colleagues who are as passionate as you are in your pursuit of excellence who will walk alongside you in your journey to contribute to our student’s success,” said Weaver before his presentation. “We hope that soon you will begin to see and embrace our school community as a family--our DeSoto ISD family.”

As the district progresses in its implementation of the “Be The Future” strategic plan, DeSoto ISD leaders prepared the leaders for success by sharing the district’s key messages, area of focus, goals, vision, mission, and expectations.

Chief of Staff Sonya Cole-Hamilton dissected the district’s vision, mission, and values via real-world examples of ensuring children’s success. She applauded the new staff for their choice to become Difference-Makers in DeSoto ISD.

“You could have made millions of dollars in other industries, but instead, you chose to make a difference,” said Cole-Hamilton. “You chose to be in a collaborative, creative environment that prepares students for a future society that does not currently exist.”

Chief of Human Resources Mia Stroy was extremely excited to share information on the new incentives and bonuses for new and returning staff for the upcoming year.

“We believe that you are the group that will make the difference for our children. We are counting on you and this is why we termed you as difference-makers,” said Stroy as she thanked the new hires for choosing DeSoto ISD.

The DeSoto ISD campus leaders were able to tour the district and the city of DeSoto before eventually settling into their new campus homes for the 21-22 school year.

The new principal of West Middle School Ed Henderson II was excited to celebrate his first day as a DeSoto Eagle, he shared photos online at his school with a simple and powerful caption that reflected the synergy and sentiments of the leaders:

“Get ready! It is going to be a great year!”
