DeSoto ISD officially welcomed its newest educators during the district’s
New Hire Teacher Orientation held on July 16. The event marked the start of a
new academic journey for dozens of incoming teachers who are eager to make a
difference in the lives of students across the district.
The orientation, held at the DeSoto High School Academy Cafeteria, saw more
than 50 new educators and introduced new hires to the district’s mission,
instructional priorities, and support resources. Teachers participated in
professional development sessions, received classroom tools, and connected with
campus leaders and fellow educators.
Among the new hires were several former DeSoto ISD graduates who are
returning to the district as teachers. These individuals bring a unique
perspective and deep sense of pride, choosing to invest in the very community
that helped shape their own educational paths.
Channing Hawkins, a 2017 graduate of DeSoto High School, will be teaching at
DHS as a Special Education inclusion teacher.
“I chose the position of Special Ed Inclusion Teacher because my younger
brother who graduated in 2023 was a special needs student,” said Hawkins.
Hawkins said his decision to return to DeSoto ISD is deeply personal, driven
by a desire to ensure that students like his brother receive the care, support,
and advocacy they deserve in the classroom.
“Throughout the time of our life I gained that experience assisting and
helping him with class work and social skills, and I just wanted to come back
and give to the other students, added Hawkins.”
The district’s commitment to student success and teacher support was on full
display throughout the orientation, reinforcing DeSoto ISD’s dedication to
academic excellence and community engagement. As the 2025–2026 school year
approaches, the district is focused on equipping its educators with the tools
and knowledge they need to inspire the next generation of Eagle scholars.
“This is such an exciting time of the year whenever we get to see people who
have chosen to come to DeSoto ISD to help us get our youth educated,” said
Lawrence Davis Interim Director, Human Resources.
“The energy in this room is really exciting and the people here are very
attentive and are really ready and excited to help us out with our mission and
vision with constructing our future here at DeSoto ISD.”
DeSoto ISD is still seeking
experienced and passionate educators to support our scholars for the upcoming
academic year. Those interested in joining the Eagle family can apply at DeSotoISD.org/Employment.
DeSoto ISD is expected to hire nearly 80 new personnel.
