The DeSoto Independent School District Board of Trustees invites students, families, staff, and community members to attend a Community Town Hall on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. The meeting will be held in the DeSoto ISD Board Room inside the district’s  Instructional Support Center located at 200 E.  Belt Line Road in DeSoto.

The Town Hall will be led by DeSoto ISD School Board Vice President James Durham and Trustee Abe Cooper Jr. and is designed to provide clarity, transparency, and direct engagement around key governance topics impacting the district and its stakeholders.

The discussion will focus on:

  • The role of a school board trustee

  • Board versus superintendent responsibilities

  • Bond updates

  • Addressing community concerns

“This Town Hall is an opportunity to ensure our community has a clear understanding of how the Board functions, how decisions are made, and how we collectively move the district forward,” said Vice President James Durham. “Open dialogue is essential to strong governance and public trust.”

Trustee Abe Cooper Jr. added, “We want to hear from our community, address concerns directly, and provide accurate information about our responsibilities and current initiatives, including bond-related updates.”

The Community Town Hall will include time for discussion and questions, allowing attendees to engage directly with Board leadership on topics of interest and concern.

In addition to the January 21 Town Hall, the Board will host its regularly scheduled meetings later this month and next:

  • January 22: School Board Special Called Meeting
  • February 4: School Board Two-Way Communication Meeting
  • February 17: School Board Progress Monitoring Meeting
  • February 23: School Board Business Meeting

All meetings of the DeSoto ISD Board of Trustees are open to the public and livestreamed online for those unable to attend in person.
