DeSoto ISD Trustees Durham, Cooper to Host Jan 21 Town Hall on Governance, Bond Updates, and Community Concerns

The DeSoto Independent School District Board of Trustees
invites students, families, staff, and community members to attend a Community
Town Hall on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. The meeting will
be held in the DeSoto ISD Board Room inside the district’s Instructional
Support Center located at 200 E. Belt Line Road in DeSoto.
The Town Hall will be led by DeSoto ISD School Board Vice
President James Durham and Trustee Abe Cooper Jr. and is designed to
provide clarity, transparency, and direct engagement around key governance
topics impacting the district and its stakeholders.
The discussion will focus on:
- The
role of a school board trustee
- Board
versus superintendent responsibilities
- Bond
updates
- Addressing
community concerns
“This Town Hall is an opportunity to ensure our community
has a clear understanding of how the Board functions, how decisions are made,
and how we collectively move the district forward,” said Vice President
James Durham. “Open dialogue is essential to strong governance and public
trust.”
Trustee Abe Cooper Jr. added, “We want to hear from
our community, address concerns directly, and provide accurate information
about our responsibilities and current initiatives, including bond-related
updates.”
The Community Town Hall will include time for discussion and
questions, allowing attendees to engage directly with Board leadership on
topics of interest and concern.
In addition to the January 21 Town Hall, the Board will host
its regularly scheduled meetings later this month and next:

22: School Board Special Called Meeting
- February
4: School Board Two-Way Communication Meeting
- February
17: School Board Progress Monitoring Meeting
- February
23: School Board Business Meeting
All meetings of the DeSoto ISD Board of Trustees are open to
the public and livestreamed
online for those unable to attend in person.
