DeSoto Independent School District is proud to announce
that, for the first time in several years, the district will officially
participate in the Special Olympics beginning Spring 2026. This
milestone represents an important and meaningful opportunity for students in
Special Populations to showcase their abilities, strengthen their confidence,
and experience the pride that comes from athletic competition.
The Special Olympics is more than an event—it is a movement
that promotes inclusion, teamwork, and community. Through participation, DeSoto
ISD student-athletes will represent the district with Eagle Pride while
engaging in experiences that build independence, leadership, and lifelong
memories.
As preparations begin, the district will coordinate key
components, including athlete registration, coaching and training schedules,
volunteer roles, and family engagement opportunities. Additional details will
be shared in the coming months, along with invitations to parent information
sessions.
Athlete Registration
Attached to this announcement is the official Special
Olympics U.S. Athlete Registration Form in both English and Spanish. To
participate in any Special Olympics practices or competitive events, this form
must be fully completed and returned to your student’s teacher by December
17, 2025. Forms will also be available on the DeSoto ISD Special
Populations webpage for your convenience.
“We are grateful for the trust you place in us,” said
Montonya Jackson Billups, Special Olympics Head of Delegates for DeSoto ISD.
“This milestone marks the beginning of a powerful and inspiring journey for our
students, our families, and our community.”
Thank you for partnering with us as we prepare to Soar
