As Spring 2026 STAAR testing approaches, DeSoto Independent School District is providing parents, students, and the community with practical strategies and tips to help students succeed. In preparation for assessments, the district will highlight ways families can support scholars during STAAR testing season.

DeSoto ISD’s mission is to ensure students, without exception, learn and grow at their highest level, while our vision is to inspire curiosity and consciousness, develop character, build courage, and nurture compassion. In alignment with these goals, the STAAR social media tips are designed to empower families and provide guidance for meaningful support at home.

The State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) is the state’s testing program aligned to Texas curriculum standards in core academic subjects, including Reading/Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. These assessments provide valuable insight into student learning and academic progress. Students in grades 3–8 and those enrolled in End-of-Course (EOC) classes will participate in STAAR testing, with all assessments administered online.

Spring STAAR Assessments for Grades 3–8 include:

  • Reading/Language Arts (RLA) and Mathematics: Grades 3–8

  • Science: Grades 5 and 8

  • Social Studies: Grade 8

End-of-Course (EOC) Assessments include: Algebra I, Biology, English I, English II, and US History. Students take the assessment as they are completing the course and will continue until a passing standard is achieved. Successful completion of all required EOC assessments is an important graduation requirement.

Your encouragement, preparation at home, and a positive mindset can make a powerful difference in your child’s confidence and success. Together, we can help students approach testing feeling prepared, supported, and ready to do their best.

DeSoto ISD is a month away from the first STAAR tests. The next several weeks require intentional focus on targeted review, strategic preparation, and maintaining student motivation.
