The DeSoto Independent School District is sharing tips for families as state assessments approach. Assessments should be framed as an opportunity for scholars to demonstrate learning and not a pass or fail test in order to reframe scholars’ perception and engagement during the upcoming testing periods.

Regardings tips to support student success, DeSoto ISD offers the following:
Tip #5 – Strengthen Foundation
• Ensure students are present daily to participate in STAAR boot camps.
• Have your student access and complete an online practice test.
• Encourage your student to ask the teacher questions to clear up any misconceptions after the practice test.
• Stay Informed – Learn about the STAAR test format, dates, and requirements to support your child effectively.
Tip #4 – Provide Academic and Emotional Support
• Write a note of encouragement to your student.
• Communicate with teachers
• Post positive affirmations around your home.
• Have students identify their strengths to boost self-esteem.
Tip #3 – Reinforce healthy habits
• Ensure Proper Sleep and Nutrition
• Incorporate breaks and relaxation
• Encourage positive thinking
Tip #2 – Test Week Readiness
• Ensure the school issued device is fully charged and you have the power cord.
• Bring a pencil.
• Check that the testing app is on the device.
• Prepare the night before – school uniforms,
Tip #1 – Day of the test- Know before you go
• Get up early and eat breakfast on the morning of the test.
• Know the testing schedule and what test you will need to take.
• High School students need to know their individual testing status for graduation purposes.
• Keep the morning stress-free.
• Arrive at school on time with your school issued testing device and power cord.
