DeSoto Independent School District is proud to announce the appointment of Andrea Riley as the Interim Head Coach of the DeSoto High School Girls Basketball team for the 2025–2026 season.

Riley, who served as an assistant coach during the 2024–2025 season, brings an extraordinary level of experience and basketball excellence to her new leadership role. A former WNBA player and nationally recognized collegiate athlete, Riley is also a seasoned coach who previously led the Bishop Dunne girls basketball program.

“Andrea Riley has earned the respect and trust of our athletes, families, and staff through her work last season,” said Claude Mathis, DeSoto ISD Athletic Director and Head Football Coach. “Her resume speaks volumes, but it’s her passion for mentorship, player development, and high standards of excellence that truly make her the right choice to lead our program forward.”

Riley's impact on the game is reflected in a distinguished playing career and numerous accolades. She is a Hall of Fame inductee with Dallas ISD, Dallas Black Sports Hall of Fame, and the Oklahoma State Hall of Fame, with her jersey enshrined in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. Riley was the 8th overall pick in the 2010 WNBA Draft by the Los Angeles Sparks and was honored with the prestigious Nancy Lieberman Award in 2010, recognizing her as the top point guard in NCAA women’s basketball.

“I’m honored and excited to step into this role and continue building on the strong foundation of excellence at DeSoto,” said Coach Andrea Riley. “This community, these student-athletes, and this program mean a great deal to me, and I look forward to leading with energy, accountability, and a deep commitment to our girls’ success both on and off the court.”

Under Riley’s leadership, DeSoto ISD looks forward to continued growth and competitive performance from the Lady Eagles basketball team.
