DeSoto ISD Kicks Off National CTE Month with Community-Focused CTE Super Saturday Event

The DeSoto Independent School District will launch National
Career and Technical Education Month with an engaging, community-centered CTE
Super Saturday event designed to spotlight student talent, hands-on
learning, and career pathway exploration. The event will take place on Saturday,
February 7, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at DeSoto High School
Academy and is open to the entire DeSoto community—including students,
families, staff, and local residents.
Hosted by the DeSoto ISD Career and Technical Education
Department, CTE Super Saturday will feature a series of public-facing services
led by students across three program areas: Cosmetology, Culinary
Arts, and Agriculture. Each service experience is designed to
provide students with authentic, hands-on work-based learning opportunities
while meeting required practicum and program hours.
The community is invited to experience the talents and
skills of our students by registering and attending at least one of these
events:
- Salon
Day – Cosmetology
- Cosmetology
students will offer salon services, including hairstyling and basic nail
care. This will allow student to apply their technical skills and the
training received.
- Brunch
– Culinary Arts
- Guests
are invited to enjoy a student-prepared brunch served by Culinary Arts
scholars. This service highlights students’ competencies in food
preparation, culinary techniques, and customer service.
- Pup
N Wash – Agriculture
- Agriculture
students will host the Pup N Wash, where community pets can
receive a gentle wash. Students will demonstrate skills in animal care,
handling, and service-based communication.
As part of DeSoto ISD’s commitment to preparing students for
college, career, and life, CTE Super Saturday connects classroom learning to
real-world application. Students gain valuable experience, refine technical
skills, and receive meaningful exposure to industry expectations.
Melinda Pugh, Director of Career and Technical Education,
emphasized the importance of this hands-on approach.
“Career experience and exposure are foundational to
preparing our students for what comes next. Events like CTE Super Saturday
allow scholars the opportunity to gain the hands-on hours and skill development
they need, while also opening their eyes to what is truly possible,” Pugh said.
“We want our students to see themselves in these pathways and to feel confident
pursuing futures that inspire them.”
