DeSoto Independent School District will welcome representatives from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) to DeSoto High School as part of its ongoing commitment to preparing scholars for postsecondary success.

The event will take place on Friday, March 27, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the Courtroom at DeSoto High School, 600 Eagle Drive, and is hosted by the district’s College and Career, Military Readiness Department.

This special visit, an initiative inspired by Interim SuperintendentBrent Mitchell, a proud UAPB graduate, will provide students with direct access to valuable information about college admissions, scholarships, career pathways, and summer opportunities. UAPB’s Vice Chancellor will also deliver remarks designed to inspire and encourage scholars while highlighting the many opportunities available through higher education.

“This partnership is deeply personal for me,” said Mitchell. “The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff played a pivotal role in shaping my journey, and it is important that our scholars see firsthand what is possible. Exposure creates opportunity, and opportunity changes outcomes.”

Mitchell will also share his personal story with students, reinforcing the transformative power of education and the importance of persistence, preparation, and vision.

All DeSoto High School students are invited to attend. Interested scholars are asked to register in advance and report to Room 1204 (EIF Room) at 8:30 a.m. (2nd Period) for a Student Huddle designed to prepare them for meaningful engagement during the program.

In alignment with the district’s focus on college and career readiness, the day will also be recognized as College Spirit Day, with staff and students encouraged to wear college or university attire to promote a culture of postsecondary aspiration and success.

“This experience is about more than a single visit; it’s about building pathways,” said Robin Johnson Ford, Director of Advanced Academics. “When scholars are given direct access to university leaders and resources, they begin to see themselves in those spaces. That sense of belonging is critical to their long-term success.”

Through intentional partnerships and leadership-driven initiatives, DeSoto ISD continues to ensure that every scholar is equipped with the knowledge, exposure, and support needed to pursue and achieve success beyond graduation.
