The energy was high and the smiles were wide at Amber Terrace Early Childhood Learning Center this morning as the campus hosted its annual “Donuts with Dads” event, drawing more than 100 fathers, grandfathers, uncles, and male role models for a morning of celebration, connection, and fun.

The event, which also welcomed a few mothers who came out to support, is a shining example of DeSoto ISD’s commitment to fostering parent and family engagement as a key pillar in student success. Guests were treated to donuts, juice, and a joyful environment before diving into a high-energy round of Dad Trivia—featuring fun questions, laughter, and surprise prizes.

“This was such a meaningful event for our scholars and families,” said Dr. Usamah Rodgers, Superintendent of Schools for DeSoto ISD. “Seeing so many father figures show up to support their children sends a powerful message. Parent engagement is one of the most impactful ways we can support academic achievement, and events like this show what’s possible when our schools and families work together.”

Adding to the morning’s inspiration, All Pro Dads Captain Orlando Robinson delivered encouraging words to the crowd, emphasizing the value of being present in a child’s life. His heartfelt message reinforced the importance of fatherhood and community involvement—resonating deeply with attendees.

The event was thoughtfully organized by the Amber Terrace team, who went above and beyond to create a welcoming and engaging atmosphere. From festive decorations to cheerful music and smooth logistics, the morning was not only well-run but also full of joy and school pride.

“We know that when families are involved, students thrive—academically, socially, and emotionally,” said Gene Morrow, Executive Director of Student Support Services. “Whether it’s through events like ‘Donuts with Dads,’ joining the PTA, or volunteering through platforms like VOLY, parent involvement is key to a successful school community.”

Kendal Harden, Parent Engagement Specialist for DeSoto ISD, echoed the importance of consistent family participation across campuses. “We want every parent to know they are welcome and needed in our schools,” Harden said. “We’re building a culture of inclusion and support where every caregiver—mom, dad, grandparent, or guardian—feels empowered to engage in their child’s learning journey.”
