DeSoto ISD Spotlights State Champion SaRod Baker’s Resilience, Academic Excellence, and Unmatched Determination
DeSoto ISD is proud to shine a spotlight on SaRod Baker, a state champion running back whose story exemplifies resilience, academic commitment, and extraordinary strength in the face of adversity.
A member of the DeSoto Eagles football program and the Class of 2027, Baker has distinguished himself as one of Texas’ premier student-athletes. Following a dominant season that helped lead the Eagles to a state championship, he amassed 3,206 rushing yards and 43 touchdowns, along with 498 passing yards and four touchdowns, and 249 receiving yards with two additional scores. His performance earned him District Co-MVP honors and national recognition, including participation in the Navy All-American Bowl.

Equally impressive is Baker’s commitment to excellence in the classroom. He recently achieved a score of 1160 on the SAT, underscoring his dedication to academic growth while balancing the demands of elite athletics.
Baker isn’t the first in the high-performing scholar-athlete category to post impressive college entrance exam scores.Ethan “Boobie” Feaster clocked a 1200 on his SAT as a means to solidify his ability to compete athletically and academically at the collegiate level before transitioning to the University of Southern California as an early graduate. Also in the pipeline are at least ten other scholar-athletes across various sports in DeSoto ISD’s Class of 2027 alongside Baker setting a standard for both academic and athletic excellence, a trend the district is proud to celebrate.
Behind these accomplishments lies a deeply personal journey.Baker endured the devastating loss of his mother, who passed away in his arms—an experience that would challenge even the strongest individuals. Yet through that grief, he has continued to push forward with purpose, channeling his pain into performance, discipline, and a relentless drive to succeed.
“SaRod’s story is a powerful reflection of what it means to persevere,” said DeSoto High School Head Football Coach Claude Mathis. “He represents the very best of our students, not only in his athletic achievements, but in his character, his focus, and his ability to rise above life’s most difficult moments.”
His journey resonates far beyond the football field.
