At Woodridge Fine Arts and Gifted Academy, Wilkeishia Everett, Special Education Inclusion Lead Teacher, leads with heart, intention, and an unwavering commitment to student success. With 22 years in education and 14 years serving DeSoto ISD, Ms. Everett’s impact reaches far beyond the classroom, shaping not only academic outcomes but confidence, resilience, and belonging for the scholars she serves.
A proud graduate of Jackson State University, Ms. Everett holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, a Bachelor of Science in Special Education, and a Master of Science in Reading Education. Her strong foundation in both instruction and literacy allows her to design intentional learning experiences that meet students exactly where they are—while helping them grow beyond what they believe is possible.
The PRIDE value that most strongly guides her work is Purpose. As Ms. Everett shares, “Purpose keeps me grounded in my commitment to uplift and empower every scholar, regardless of their starting point or challenges.” She believes deeply that when students are provided the right support, encouragement, and opportunities, growth is inevitable. That purpose drives her advocacy, her collaboration with teachers and families, and her dedication to creating inclusive learning environments where students feel valued and capable.
Ms. Everett’s personal “why” is rooted in service and belief. “I work in education because I believe every child, especially those with unique learning needs, deserves access to high-quality instruction, advocacy, and an environment where they feel valued and capable,” she explains. For her, education is about being a voice for students who may struggle to find their own and celebrating all forms of progress—academic, social, and emotional.
She is most proud of the confidence her students gain over time. “Seeing them progress, not only academically, but socially and emotionally, reminds me why my work matters,” she says. From a student advocating for themselves to reaching a goal once thought impossible, these moments affirm the lasting impact of her work. Ms. Everett is intentional about supporting the whole child and whole adult, building trust-filled relationships, prioritizing social-emotional learning, and collaborating closely with families and colleagues to ensure students thrive.
Known for uplifting others, one fun and meaningful fact about Ms. Everett is her love of celebrating people. “I truly love celebrating others—recognizing staff accomplishments or making moments special for students and colleagues,”she shares, believing that acknowledgment builds confidence and fosters a positive campus culture.
Looking ahead, Ms. Everett is excited about DeSoto ISD’s future. “I’m encouraged by the focus on meeting the needs of the whole child, strengthening inclusive practices, and empowering educators,” she says. She is especially hopeful about increased recognition for Special Education educators and the continued commitment to equity and excellence across the district.
Through purpose-driven leadership and compassionate service, Wilkeishia Everett continues to help build a future in DeSoto ISD where every learner is supported, celebrated, and empowered to succeed.
