Fifth‑grader Maya Ray is a shining example of leadership, responsibility, and school pride at Frank D. Moates Elementary. Whether she’s cheering on the sidelines or sharing her voice on the Superintendent Advisory Committee, Maya approaches every role with purpose and dedication. She is known for taking ownership of her actions, supporting classmates, and consistently modeling what it means to be responsible—her core DeSoto ISD PRIDE value.

Maya’s motivation at school is driven by her love for cheer, an activity she values deeply. Her commitment to staying eligible, improving academically, and meeting expectations reflects a level of maturity that inspires her peers. This year, she proudly earned the title of Cheer Captain, a recognition of her leadership, discipline, and ability to uplift others.

Focused and determined, Maya is currently working toward one of her biggest academic goals: scoring 100% on the STAAR test. She defines success through accuracy, effort, and doing things the right way—a mindset that fuels her continued growth.

Beyond academics and cheer, Maya makes a positive impact on campus by being the student who steps in wherever help is needed. She supports classmates, leads by example, and contributes to school and community events with genuine enthusiasm. Her actions help shape a positive culture where responsibility and teamwork are valued.

One of the most influential people in Maya’s life is her teacher—who is also her mother. Through consistent guidance at school and home, Maya has learned perseverance, accountability, and the importance of always giving her best.

Looking ahead, Maya hopes to continue making a strong impression through extracurricular activities and sports, carrying her leadership, confidence, and dedication far beyond DeSoto ISD.
