DeSoto Independent School District proudly celebrates the outstanding achievement of DeSoto High School scholar Jada'Chris Easter, who earned a Top 10 finish in the State of Texas at the UIL Academic Speech & Debate State Finals.

Competing in Lincoln-Douglas Debate at the prestigious State UIL Academic Speech Tournament, held at the University of Texas at Austin’s Communication Building, Easter represented DeSoto ISD with excellence, critical thinking, and poise under pressure. His performance secured a Win #7 ranking among the top competitors in the state, marking a significant academic and competitive milestone.

The competition was sponsored by the University Interscholastic League State Academics, which brings together the highest-performing student scholars across Texas to compete in rigorous academic events.

Easter was coached by Judy Nance, English Teacher and UIL Debate & Academic Coordinator at DeSoto High School, a National Forensic League Premier Distinction Coach. He was supported at the event by chaperone Edgar Guerra, Spanish Teacher and Head Boys Soccer Coach, whose presence helped ensure student success and support throughout the competition experience.

“Jada’Chris demonstrated the kind of discipline, preparation, and intellectual strength that defines DeSoto ISD scholars at the highest level,” said Nance. “Competing at State UIL and finishing in the Top 10 is an exceptional accomplishment that reflects both talent and hard work.”

This achievement highlights DeSoto ISD’s continued commitment to academic excellence, student leadership, and competitive readiness in UIL academic programs.

The event received media coverage from local Austin newspapers, further underscoring the significance of the competition and the caliber of student scholars participating at the state level.
