DeSoto High School Class of 2026 Celebrates Exceptional Outcomes, Academic Milestones, and Post-Secondary Success

DeSoto Independent School District proudly celebrates the DeSoto High School Class of 2026, a graduating cohort whose results reflect sustained academic growth, career readiness, and a strong commitment to postsecondary success across college, military, and workforce pathways.
This year’s graduating class achieved a 99.77 graduation rate, with 444 of 445 scholars earning their diplomas, underscoring the district’s continued focus on persistence, support systems, and academic completion. Collectively, the Class of 2026 also demonstrated significant academic productivity, earning 3,351 college credit hours through early college opportunities.
Early College High School scholars continued to distinguish themselves, with 53 associate degrees awarded in May 2026 and 3 additional degrees anticipated in Summer 2026, highlighting the strength and sustainability of DeSoto ISD’s college acceleration programs.
“Graduation represents more than a milestone—it reflects years of preparation, resilience, and partnership,” said Brent S. Mitchell, interim superintendent of schools for DeSoto Independent School District. “The Class of 2026 has demonstrated what it means to be prepared for life beyond high school, and we are proud of every pathway they are pursuing.”
The Class of 2026 also posted strong College, Career, and Military Readiness (CCMR) outcomes, with 393 of 444 seniors (88.51%) meeting CCMR benchmarks. Workforce-aligned credentials remained a key area of success, as scholars earned 329 Industry-Based Certifications (IBCs) overall, with 236 graduates earning at least one certification, representing 57% of the class (413 seniors cohort reporting subset). In CCMR accountability reporting, 309 IBCs were recognized, with 212 graduates earning at least one certification, reflecting 51% of the accountability cohort (413 seniors).
Academic readiness indicators also reflected continued progress. TSI college readiness benchmarks were met by 263 of 444 seniors (59.23%), while participation in college entrance exams remained strong. 72% of seniors participated in the SAT, earning an average score of 837, with a college readiness benchmark of 1010. On the ACT, 6.3% of students participated, earning an average score of 17, with a college readiness benchmark of 21.
Advanced coursework engagement remained robust, with 282 AP exams taken by 136 seniors, reinforcing the class’s commitment to rigorous academic preparation.
Additionally, 97.8% of graduates submitted college applications, reflecting a strong college-going culture supported through districtwide initiatives, including the Dallas County Promise partnership, which reported 98.8% participation among DeSoto scholars.
Financial impact and opportunity expansion were also significant highlights. Seniors secured an estimated $19,246,192 in scholarship and financial aid awards, demonstrating the class’s competitiveness and access to postsecondary resources.

Principal Leon Darden of DeSoto High School commended the graduating class for their achievement and legacy.
“From the beginning, I have said the Class of 2026 is the greatest to ever exist, and they proved it through their hard work, leadership, and perseverance,” Darden said. “This class has set a standard for excellence that will continue to shape the culture of DeSoto High School for years to come.”
