In recognition of National Volunteer Month, DeSoto Independent School District is proud to celebrate a powerful milestone: more than 1,200 volunteer hours contributed by families, alumni, and community members during the 2025–2026 school year—the highest level of engagement since 2018.

Behind each hour is a meaningful act of service. From parents reading alongside students to community members supporting campus events, volunteers across the district are helping create schools that are more connected, supportive, and student-centered. While individual contributions may seem small, together they form a collective impact that strengthens the entire DeSoto ISD community.

“Reaching this milestone speaks to the heart of who we are as a district,” said Kendal Harden, DeSoto ISD Parent and Family Engagement Specialist. “Our volunteers show up with purpose and commitment, and their presence directly enhances the learning environment for our scholars. They are true partners in student success.”

Volunteers play a critical role in advancing student achievement and fostering a culture of belonging. By supporting classrooms, mentoring students, and assisting with programs and events, they help ensure that every scholar has access to encouragement, resources, and opportunities to thrive.

“Volunteers are an essential extension of our student support system,” said Dr. Gene Morrow, DeSoto ISD Executive Director of Student Support Services. “Their willingness to invest time and talent helps remove barriers, build confidence in our students, and reinforce the sense of community that defines DeSoto ISD.”
