DeSoto ISD Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month With Districtwide Carnival and Monthlong Activities
DeSoto ISD will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with a districtwide carnival and a series of activities designed to help scholars explore Hispanic and Latino history, culture, language and contributions.
Observed nationally from Sept. 15 through Oct. 15, Hispanic Heritage Month recognizes the histories, cultures and achievements of Americans whose heritage is connected to Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, Central America and South America.
As part of this year’s celebration, DeSoto ISD will host a Hispanic Heritage Month Carnival from 6-8 p.m. Oct. 8 at DeSoto High School. The districtwide event will bring students, families, staff and community members together for an evening featuring music, food, dance, culture and family activities.
The carnival will serve as a centerpiece of the district’s monthlong celebration, creating an opportunity for Eagle Nation to learn from one another, celebrate the cultures represented throughout DeSoto ISD and strengthen connections across the community.
Throughout Hispanic Heritage Month, students will also engage with cultural and educational activities across the district. Planned features include daily Hispanic heritage facts, Spanish words and phrases, recognition of influential Hispanic and Latino figures, cultural and historical observances, notable birthdays and special district events.
The observance begins Sept. 15, a date that coincides with the independence anniversaries of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. Mexico celebrates its independence Sept. 16, followed by Chile on Sept. 18.
Through classroom learning and community celebrations, DeSoto ISD aims to give scholars opportunities to broaden their perspectives, learn about the contributions of Hispanic and Latino communities and celebrate the diverse experiences that strengthen Eagle Nation.
Families and community members are invited to join DeSoto ISD Oct. 8 for the Hispanic Heritage Month Carnival and participate in the district’s celebration of culture, learning and community.
