DeSoto Independent School District (ISD) is excited to host its upcoming 8th Grade Showcase on May 6, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at DeSoto High School inside Nickels Auditorium. This event will highlight the commitment of eighth grade scholars to a variety of academic, artistic, and extracurricular programs at DeSoto High School, including Career and Technical Education (CTE), Fine Arts, JROTC, Early College High School, P-TECH, and Advanced Academics.
The 8th Grade Showcase is an opportunity for students, families, and staff to celebrate the hard work and dedication that these young scholars have already shown as they prepare for the next stage of their academic journey. The event will feature displays and presentations that reflect the diverse and dynamic opportunities available at DeSoto High School.
“As a district, we believe in the power of providing our students with a well-rounded education,” said Stephanie McCloud, DeSoto ISD Chief Academic Officer. “Through our Triple-A Experience of Academics, Arts, and Athletics, we’re committed to engaging our scholars in meaningful ways that go beyond the classroom. The 8th Grade Showcase is a testament to the dedication of our students as they begin to explore pathways that will help shape their future successes.”
The showcase will include opportunities for students to explore various programs and pathways available at DeSoto High School, all designed to promote college and career readiness. These pathways include robust Career and Technical Education options, where students gain hands-on experience in fields like business, healthcare, engineering, and more. Additionally, students will learn about the district’s Fine Arts offerings, JROTC program, Early College High School initiative, P-TECH (Pathways in Technology Early College High School), and Advanced Academics programs.
“We are thrilled to see so many of our eighth grade scholars eager to engage in the exciting programs at DeSoto High School,” said Jasen Campbell, Principal of DeSoto High School. “Our goal is to create an environment where students can explore their passions and talents, whether it’s through career-focused programs, the arts, or leadership opportunities. This event allows them to see the limitless possibilities available to them in high school and beyond.”
In line with the district’s vision, DeSoto ISD is dedicated to providing students with both academic rigor and extracurricular enrichment. The Triple-A Experience offers a holistic approach to student development, encouraging participation in core, co- and extra-curricular activities to foster well-rounded scholars.
“Our Career and Technical Education programs are designed to give students real-world skills and experiences that will serve them well in the workforce or as they pursue higher education,” said Melina Pugh, Director of Career and Technical Education for DeSoto ISD. “The 8th Grade Showcase is a wonderful opportunity for students and their families to see how these programs will help them develop practical skills while exploring their career interests.”
Additionally, the district’s counseling services are available to assist students in navigating their academic pathways, helping them make informed decisions about their future endeavors.
“Our counseling team works closely with students to ensure they understand all the educational opportunities available to them,” said Dr. Anita Perry, Executive Director of Counseling Services. “The 8th Grade Showcase is a perfect chance for students to start thinking about their high school journey, while gaining insights into how they can begin to align their interests with the programs that will help them achieve their goals.”
The 8th Grade Showcase is an exciting and informative event that will allow students to envision their future academic and career opportunities at DeSoto High School.
