DeSoto ISD Appoints M.T. Tyeskie as New Director of Athletics
During a special called meeting on Monday, November 3, 2025, the DeSoto Independent School District Board of Trustees approved the appointment of M.T. Tyeskie as the district’s new Director of Athletics.
With more than 23 years of experience in education and seven years in athletic administration, Tyeskie brings a proven record of innovative leadership, strategic development, and a deep commitment to student success.
Before joining DeSoto ISD, Tyeskie served as Assistant Director of Athletics for Dallas ISD, where he led several transformative initiatives to strengthen districtwide athletic operations, culture, and leadership. His accomplishments include creating a customized IT system to streamline athletic transportation, improving efficiency and accountability, and launching morale and recognition programs such as Coach of the Month, Coach of the Year, and the “WE SEE YOU” Award, celebrating staff dedication and impact.
Earlier in his career, Tyeskie served as Athletic Coordinator and Head Football Coach at Emmett J. Conrad High School, where he guided 42 student-athletes to earn college scholarships and was named Dallas ISD Athletic Coordinator of the Year (2013–2014).
A proud graduate of Lincoln High School and Louisiana Tech University, Tyeskie holds degrees from Peru State College and North Central University, a principal certification from Lamar University, and is currently pursuing a doctorate degree at Liberty University.
“DeSoto has a proud tradition of athletic and academic excellence,” said M.T. Tyeskie. “My goal is to build on that foundation by creating opportunities that develop the whole student — athletically, academically, and personally — while empowering coaches and teams to reach their highest potential.”
DeSoto ISD Superintendent of Schools Dr. Usamah Rodgers said Tyeskie’s appointment strengthens the district’s efforts to advance its signature Triple A Experience — Academics, Arts, and Athletics.
“Mr. Tyeskie embodies the type of transformational leadership that supports DeSoto ISD’s vision of educating the whole child,” said Dr. Rodgers. “His experience and approach align perfectly with our commitment to balance academic rigor, artistic creativity, and athletic excellence. We are confident he will help elevate our programs to new heights while developing students as leaders both on and off the field.”
DeSoto ISD Board President Chasiti McKissic echoed those sentiments, emphasizing the importance of leadership continuity and innovation in sustaining the district’s legacy of excellence.
“The Board is proud to welcome Mr. Tyeskie to DeSoto ISD,” said McKissic. “His vision for equitable access, student leadership, and program development represents the next phase of growth for our athletic department. We look forward to the positive impact he will have on our students, staff, and community.”
Tyeskie will assume the position previously held in a dual capacity by DeSoto High School Head Football Coach Claude Mathis, who recently celebrated his 150th career win with the DeSoto Eagles.
In addition to his district leadership experience, Tyeskie has made significant contributions to the broader athletic community. He serves as Co-Chair of the Development Team for Aspiring Directors and Head Football Coaches through the Texas Alliance of Black School Educators (TABSE) and is an active member of the Texas High School Athletic Directors Association (THSADA) and the Texas High School Coaches Association (THSCA).
A lifelong advocate for developing future leaders, Tyeskie’s mission is to ensure every DeSoto ISD student-athlete is equipped for success in college, career, and life.
