DeSoto High School Football Sets Sights on Another State Championship in 2025 Season

As the 2025–26 academic year begins, DeSoto High School’s nationally
ranked football program is preparing for another high-powered campaign, fueled
by tradition, talent, tenacity, and high expectations.
Under the focused leadership of Head Coach Claude Mathis, who recently
transitioned away from his athletic director duties to concentrate solely on
coaching, the Eagles enter the new season with a clear mission: defend their
dominance in Texas 6A football and build on a legacy of excellence.
“The expectation hasn't changed. The standard is best, and we still
expect to win district and another state championship,” said Mathis. Our guys
will compete every day on the field and in the classroom to get us to that goal
because it takes both success in academics and in football to win. It's our
culture...academics come first and my guys are expected to represent DeSoto
well in the community. That's how we will get it done.
DeSoto competes in one of the state’s most competitive districts, facing
fierce matchups that test the program’s depth, speed, and strategic discipline.
The 2024 season saw the Eagles post an impressive record and make a deep
playoff run, showcasing the caliber of athletes and coaching DeSoto is known
for.
With returning talent, new faces rising through the ranks, and an
off-season grounded in strength, conditioning, and accountability, the team is
poised to make headlines again this fall. Beyond wins and rankings, the program
continues to emphasize academic achievement, character development, and
service.
As DeSoto ISD continues to embrace its theme of “Constructing Our
Future,” the football team exemplifies how grit, preparation, and community
support shape student success in powerful ways.
