DeSoto Independent School District is celebrating the academic achievements of its scholars after multiple students were awarded scholarships from Southern Illinois University Carbondale, underscoring the district’s continued focus on college readiness and postsecondary success.
“These scholarship awards reflect the academic excellence, perseverance and college readiness of our scholars,” said Dr. Anita Perry, executive director of College, Career and Military Readiness and Counseling Services. “We are incredibly proud of Samantha Ballard and all of our students who earned recognition from SIU Carbondale.”
Among the recipients, Samantha Ballard received a $108,000 full-ride scholarship from SIU Carbondale. She was formally recognized during a celebration attended by SIU Carbondale Chancellor Austin Lane, distinguished alumni, university staff, parents and fellow students, who gathered to commend her academic performance and dedication.
In addition to Ballard’s award, 30 other DeSoto ISD students were selected to receive scholarships from SIU Carbondale. The individual student names and the total dollar amount awarded to the district have not yet been disclosed. District administrators are working to obtain that information and will share additional details once they become available.
Stephanie McCloud, DeSoto ISD chief academic officer, said the recognitions demonstrate the strength of the district’s academic programming and partnerships.
“Opportunities like these affirm the impact of strong partnerships between school districts and higher education institutions,” McCloud said. “They also demonstrate what is possible when students are supported, challenged and prepared for success beyond high school.”
DeSoto ISD remains committed to supporting students as they pursue postsecondary opportunities and celebrating milestones that open doors to future success. Additional updates regarding scholarship recipients and total awards will be shared once the information is confirmed.
