Scholars across DeSoto Independent School District are sharpening their spelling skills as they prepare to compete in the Districtwide Spelling Bee, a celebration of academic excellence that will take place on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at the DeSoto High School Auditorium, located at 600 Eagle Drive, DeSoto, Texas.
After advancing through classroom- and campus-level spelling competitions, the district’s top spellers will take the stage for the culminating event. Scholar arrival and check-in will begin at 6:00 p.m. for orientation and preparation, with the competition running from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Families, educators, district leadership, community members, volunteers, and local partners are invited to attend and cheer on DeSoto ISD scholars as they demonstrate confidence, discipline, and academic excellence.
“Our scholars and their teachers are working incredibly hard to prepare for this year’s District Spelling Bee,” said Stephanie McCloud, DeSoto ISD Chief Academic Officer. “We would love to see the auditorium filled with supporters cheering them on—just as we do for athletics and the arts. The DeSoto ISD Triple-A Experience ensures that every scholar has the opportunity to compete and thrive academically, artistically, and athletically, and this event is a powerful way to celebrate learning.”
In preparation for the district competition, scholars are reviewing word lists, practicing regularly, and participating in peer coaching sessions with older students and community volunteers. These efforts reflect the district’s commitment to building confidence, perseverance, and a strong academic foundation for all learners.
Winners of the Districtwide Spelling Bee will advance to the Scripps Regional Qualifier in mid-March, where they will compete against top spellers from across the region. Regional winners may earn the opportunity to advance to the Scripps National Spelling Bee, a nationally recognized competition that celebrates linguistic excellence and academic achievement.
The Districtwide Spelling Bee honors students’ dedication and hard work while creating a joyful, public celebration of learning. DeSoto ISD looks forward to recognizing the accomplishments of its scholars and continuing to build strong community support for student success.
