The DeSoto Independent School District proudly celebrates Katherine Johnson Technology Magnet Academy scholar Kevin Punch II, who exemplifies the district’s Triple-A Experience — Academics, Arts, and Athletics — by excelling in the arts through acting. Kevin’s dedication and talent have earned him roles in two popular television productions, showcasing his creativity and leadership.

Kevin will appear in the following upcoming projects:

  • Abbott Elementary
Kevin has a principal role in an episode airing on ABC on January 7, 2026, at 7:30 PM CST. This critically acclaimed series continues to captivate audiences nationwide, and Kevin’s participation marks a significant milestone in his acting journey.

  • Power Pal (Animated Series)
Kevin lends his voice as Harry the Hedgehog in Episode 3: “Be a Reader, Be a Leader.” This episode is available now on YouTube: EPISODE THREE: BE A READER, BE A LEADER!

“It feels amazing. I had auditioned for Abbott Elementary before, so getting the call that I booked my 2025 goal of being on the show was incredible. Coming right after my first voiceover role as Harry the Hedgehog on Power Pals, it made the entire week feel like an amazing blessing,” said Kevin, who has been acting since he was four years old.

Kevin’s first job was a SAG commercial with American Airlines, and since then, he has worked in commercials, film, and television. His passion for acting began as a young child watching television.

“Watching those family-friendly television shows when I was much younger brought me so much joy, and I told my parents that I wanted to be on TV one day so I could bring that same joy to the world. That’s still my goal today, and I’m grateful that I’m already able to do that through acting,” he said.

Kevin’s mother, Shmara Punch, is proud of his accomplishments.

“He is always setting goals and working toward them, which makes us very proud. Being part of KJTMA has been incredibly supportive, especially academically.”

While Kevin’s acting career began before joining KJTMA, the campus has provided a nurturing environment for his dreams. From performing in the Black History Program to exploring art and animation, Kevin continues to grow academically and creatively.

“Being a student has helped me grow in new ways, especially by reconnecting with theater. My art teacher, Mr. Turner, has also encouraged me to explore my creativity through drawing. Being part of projects like Power Pals, which teaches kids to ‘Be a reader, be a leader,’ has inspired me to draw more animation and even work toward creating my own cartoon one day to educate students,” said Kevin, who also enjoys project-based programs offered through the district’s CHOICE portfolio.

When it comes to academics, the Punch family chose KJTMA because of Kevin’s strong interest in STEM.

“I enjoy being a DeSoto ISD student because of the opportunities to attend a school that focuses on things I really want to grow in, especially STEM,” he explained. “STEM is one of my favorite areas, and math is one of my favorite subjects. I love working on projects that show how STEM is used in everyday life and in so many different careers.”

Ms. Punch added:

“When choosing a new school, he was very intentional about wanting a STEM-focused environment. After research and his interview process, he began at KJTMA in fourth grade and is now in fifth grade. The school allows him to engage in meaningful projects that support his interests. In addition, the arts have been equally impactful. Having the freedom and support to grow academically and creatively has been an amazing experience.”

Kevin’s achievements reflect the district’s commitment to nurturing well-rounded scholars who excel academically while exploring their passions in the arts and athletics. His success serves as an inspiration to peers and the community, demonstrating that opportunities are limitless when talent meets determination.

In addition to acting, Kevin is interested in becoming an architectural engineer. He also plays basketball, participates in golf with Black Caddy, is active at church, serves on the student council, works as a peer mediator, and enjoys volunteer work.

DeSoto ISD celebrates this young Triple-A Scholar and invites the school community to watch him on television on January 7, 2026.
