DeSoto Independent School District is proud to celebrate Teacher Appreciation Month this May, honoring the dedication, impact, and unwavering commitment of its educators who shape the future of every student they serve.

As part of this month-long recognition, the district will observe Teacher Appreciation Week (May 4–8) and National Teacher Day on May 5, highlighting the essential role teachers play in fostering academic excellence, student growth, and a strong sense of community across DeSoto ISD.

“Teachers are the heart of our district and the driving force behind student success,” said Brent S. Mitchell, Interim Superintendent of Schools. “Their passion, resilience, and commitment to meeting the needs of every learner make a lasting difference not only in the classroom, but in the lives of our students and families.”

Throughout the week, campuses and district departments will host a variety of appreciation activities to celebrate educators, including staff recognition events, student-led expressions of gratitude, and community partnerships providing tokens of appreciation.

DeSoto ISD teachers are recognized not only for their instructional expertise, but also for their role in supporting the whole child—serving as mentors, advocates, and leaders who create engaging, inclusive, and supportive learning environments.

“Our educators go above and beyond each day to ensure that students feel supported, challenged, and inspired,” said Metric Manning. “Their ability to connect with students academically and emotionally is what makes our schools strong and our students successful.”

Teacher Appreciation Month also serves as an opportunity for the district to reflect on its continued investment in educator support, including professional development, wellness initiatives, and collaborative learning environments that empower teachers to thrive in their profession.

DeSoto ISD encourages students, families, and community members to join in celebrating educators by sharing messages of appreciation, participating in campus activities, and recognizing the profound impact teachers make every day.

“Teaching is more than a profession—it is a calling,” Mitchell added. “We are grateful for the educators of DeSoto ISD who show up each day with purpose, passion, and a commitment to excellence.”
