As the DeSoto Independent School District prepares to conclude the 2024-25 academic school year and to reduce any potential distractions and concerns and facilitate a smooth release and transition to the summer, no backpacks will be allowed on secondary campuses starting Monday, May 12, 2025, through May 23, 2025, which is an early release day and the last day of school.
It is important to note that students who bring backpacks will not have them stored on campus and will be asked to return home. Therefore, it is imperative that all scholars comply with this adjustment and leave backpacks at home.
This measure is being taken out of an abundance of caution.
Additionally, to further support the conclusion of the school year and the release of students at all secondary campuses, our school community can expect the following:
- The DeSoto ISD security staff will be in place and visible throughout the day.
- District-level staff members trained in safety and security will be assisting campuses with monitoring high-traffic and common areas in real-time through our video surveillance systems.
DeSoto ISD is committed to maintaining a learning environment that is safe and productive and that supports the criminal prosecution of any individual who threatens harm to our students, staff, and campuses.
In addition to the measures mentioned above, campuses will limit traffic in hallways during the school day and parents are asked to pick up students as immediately as possible at the close of the school day.
Please remember that Friday, May 23 is an Early Release Day, and all parents, students, and staff will function according to the early release times and protocols listed here and communicated at the start of the school year.
Parents are asked to contact their child's campus directly regarding any questions related to these changes.
DeSoto ISD thanks its school community in advance for its cooperation and support as the district continues to work with stakeholders to keep students and staff safe.
